The Telangana government has placed special focus on the development of Future City 4.0. Following the vision of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, steps are being taken to develop Future City as the fourth city in the sequence of Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Cyberabad. As part of this, the Revanth government is making efforts to enhance transportation facilities for the future city, and has started the survey work for the metro corridor related to it.
The metro survey work from Shamshabad International Airport to Future City is progressing at a fast pace. The Telangana government is moving forward with the determination to make Future City a pollution-free green city, aiming to stand alongside the most remarkable cities in the world. As part of this, Hyderabad Airport Metro Rail Corporation, along with HMDA and TGIA, is preparing a metro rail extension plan. Future City, which will span approximately 15,000 acres, is being designed as a pollution-free city with international-level travel facilities, and the green corridor with metro rail will play a crucial role in this development.
Survey work for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the metro corridor from Shamshabad International Airport to the under-construction Skill University at Meer Khan Peta is ongoing. Hyderabad Metro Rail MD NVS Reddy has reviewed the related works. The metro route from Shamshabad Airport to Future City will be approximately 40 kilometers long. The route will begin from the airport terminal, proceed along the newly planned metro rail depot, and follow an elevated path along the airport boundary wall. It will move for 5 kilometers over the Mansanpally road and then reach the large Golconda ORR exit. At this point, the government plans to develop nearly 1,000 to 1,500 acres of land at Bahadurpura, located near the Golconda Fort, into an international-level center. The government has outlined plans to develop two metro stations at Bahadurpura and Pedda Golconda as key, attractive stations.
From the Raviryala Exit to the under-construction Skill University, approximately 22 kilometers of the Greenfield road will be developed under the HMDA’s supervision, with a width of 100 meters. The metro rail corridor will be allocated 22 meters in the middle of this road, which will stretch through areas like Kongarakalan, Lemoor, Timmapur, Rachalur, Gummadavelli, Panjaguda, and Meerkhanpet. The metro rail will be developed as an at-grade metro in the middle of the road space allocated for the metro. With the metro rail running at the same level as the road, the main road on both sides of the metro rail will have three lanes. In addition to this, attractive trees and greenery will be developed along the road, and two service roads will be established on either side of the main road.
During the Congress government in the undivided Andhra Pradesh, sufficient land was allocated for the future metro in the Outer Ring Road (ORR) area. This has paved the way for the construction of the Shamshabad-Future City metro corridor. The Revanth government is working with the goal of completing the metro corridor construction within the next three years. In addition, with the large-scale infrastructure projects being implemented by the government, there is widespread hope for an even brighter future for Hyderabad. HMDA, TGIA, and metro rail organizations are working jointly on various development programs, including the metro. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the metro corridor, including those in Medchal and Shamirpet in the North City, as well as the Future City metro corridor, is expected to be completed by the end of March. Once approved by the state government, it will be submitted to the central government.
The plan for the Shamshabad to Future City metro corridor includes 16 metro stations along a total distance of 40 kilometers, covering areas such as RGIA Airport, Airport Cargo, Bahadurpura, Pedda Golconda, Tukkuguda, Raviryala, Kongarakalan, Rachalur, Gummadavelli, and Skill University. The metro will be developed with 2 kilometers underground, 6 kilometers elevated, 14 kilometers elevated along the ORR, and 18 kilometers at ground level. The metro rail project is being designed so that passengers can travel from Shamshabad Airport to Future City in just 40 minutes.
Officials are planning to construct the metro corridor in such a way that passengers can reach Future City from the airport in just 40 minutes. The corridor, which will begin at the airport, will be designed to pass through Raviryala and run along the ORR. In line with Future City’s development, green corridors are being created to facilitate quick access from the international airport to Future City.
Experts believe that the completion of the metro rail corridor from Shamshabad to Future City will provide a bright future for the real estate sector. With the foundations already being laid for Skill University and AI City in Future City, international companies are showing interest. Along with the metro corridor, the development of greenfield roads and the construction of the Regional Ring Road are expected to transform the area’s landscape. In the next five years, the Future City area is anticipated to become a prime location for residential and commercial hubs.
