Institutional investments in housing sector excellent

Institutional investments in the housing sector during the first six months of the current year have increased at least five times. During January-June period, the institutional investments received by the housing sector are put at Rs 3552 crore, according to real estate agency Colliers India. However, the investments the housing sector attracted during the corresponding period last year were Rs 738 crore only. On the other hand, the first six months of this year saw industrial and warehousing sector attracted 95% more investments to the tune of Rs 2870 crore.

During the corresponding period last year, the same sector could attract investments to the tune of Rs 1468 crore only. On the whole, the first six months of the current year saw residential sector attracting institutional investments up to five times. Mainly, the domestic investments lend support to the growth of this sector. Data centres, life sciences, senior housing, holiday homes, students housing and other alternative asset development sectors saw dwindling of investments up to 60% in the first six months to reach Rs 1296 crore, the report said.

Last year during the same period, this sector attracted investments up to Rs 3273 crore. Similarly, other institutional investors’ investments rose by 43% to cross $ 3.7 billion mark. Last year, investments in the same category were only $ 2.57 billion. In 2018, investments in this sector were $ 5.7 and they increased to $ 6.3 billion in 2019. However, they dropped to $ 4.8 billion in 2020 and registered slight increase to $ 4.9 billion in 2019. In 2021, the investments dropped further to $ 4 billion, while 2022 saw the investments increasing to $ 4.9 billion.
