HPI rises marginally in Q4 of 2021-22

The House Prices Index (HPI) has registered marginal increase in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2021- 22, according to a press release by the Reserve Bank. However, the HPI growth compared to its grown in the January-March quarter of fiscal year 2021-22 is less, it added. The RBI releases the HPI data on quarterly basis using transaction-level data received from the housing registration authorities in 10 major cities (Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai).

All India HPI recorded an annual growth (y-o-y) of 1.8 per cent in fourth quarter of 2021-22 as compared with 3.1 per cent in the previous quarter and 2.7 per cent a year ago. The y-o-y movements in HPI varied widely across the cities – ranging from a growth of 19.2 percent (Kolkata) to a contraction of 11.3 percent (Bengaluru).
