The Government of Andhra Pradesh will allot 500 acres to the Visakhapatnam-Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (VMRDA) for having developed layouts offering one cent house sites for implementation of Jagananna Housing Scheme. Under the scheme, 1.4 lakh homeless poor are going to be benefited.
The VMRDA spent Rs 150 crore for the purpose of the development of layouts of the colony. The plots have been developed in over 5000 acres at several places in Visakhapatnam district. First, the government sanctioned Rs 150 crore to the VMRDA. But, the VMRDA urged the government to allot it land at one place instead of allotting 15 per cent of the land in each layout. The state government agreed to the idea. In Bhimili mandal, 239 acres have been identified for the purpose.
