GHMC collects Rs 100 crores in one day

Large property tax collections on March 31

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has set a new record in property tax collections. On a single day, it collected nearly Rs 100 crore in taxes, marking a historic achievement. Property tax payments for the financial year 2024-25 saw a significant surge on March 31. The GHMC’s decision to offer a 90% interest rebate on arrears for those who paid their property tax by March 31st yielded excellent results, leading to a spike in payments on the final day.

Additionally, property tax collections have crossed Rs 2,000 crore in GHMC’s history. Remarkably, Rs 500 crore was collected in just one month. By the end of February this year, the corporation had already collected Rs 1,500 crore in property taxes. The remaining Rs 400 crore came in March, with Rs 100 crore collected on the last day alone. Along with the interest rebate announcement, nearly 800 staff members who have been involved in property tax collection across the city over the past two months have played a crucial role in this success, as reported by Anurag Jayanti, GHMC Additional Commissioner (Revenue).
