An FIR has been filed against 18 persons, including five former municipal commissioners of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), 11 town planning department officers, and a builder and an architect for allegedly allowing development of a 23-storey building in violation of rules.
The Bazarpeth police here registered the case against five former commissioners, both of whom are IAS officers, developer, architect, and the 11 civic officials, recently on directions given on January 18 by Kalyan sessions court. The case was registered against former commissioners Govind Rathod, Ramnath Sonawane, S S Bhise, and E Ravindran and Govind Bodke, both of whom are IAS officers, developer Harakchand Jain, architect Anil Nirgude
The KDMC bosses and town planners are accused of conniving with the developer and allowing the redevelopment of a property in violation of rules starting January 2004. The project is the 23-storey Vastusankalp Punyoday Skylounge near Kalyan’s Ahilyabai chowk. Arun Gidh, a former corporator, had approached the police with evidence in the case. Turned away, he had moved the court of judicial magistrate first class which ordered the police to file a FIR.
He alleged that developer did not take proper consent of 137 rental property holders in the old Manik building before taking permission for redevelopment. The developer also got undue favours on floor space index (FSI) from former KDMC commissioners and town planning officials from 2004 to 2021.
