The Telangana RERA has cracked down on builders for regulatory violations. A fine of Rs 9.8 lakhs has been imposed on Mehta and Modi Realty for unauthorised construction in the Greenwood Heights project in Kowkur, Alwal Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District. The complaint was filed by Paranjit Das, who discovered that a toilet drainage pipe had been installed in his private balcony without his knowledge after his flat was handed over on February 25, 2023. He reported that a toilet had been constructed on the seventh floor of his flat and that the drainage pipe extended from his balcony.
Mehta and Modi Realty defended their actions, stating that sewage and water pipelines are part of common amenities. However, after hearing the arguments, RERA Chairman Satyanarayana clarified that the construction of the toilet contrary to the approved plan should be considered as unauthorised. The Chairman directed that the drainage pipeline be removed from the balcony within 30 days.
