The Government of Delhi has hit upon a novel idea of encouraging rain-water conservation to improve the ground water table in the city state. It announced a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to those who install rain water harvesting system to conserve the rain water that is incident on their roof-top. Besides, it also offered a discount of 10 per cent on water bills. The Delhi Jal Board has issued relevant guidelines.
The government extends the financial assistance to those who build homes in areas 100 square metres and more. The financial assistance can be had till December 31, 2021. Those who want to set up the rain-water harvesting facility need not secure any permission from the Delhi Jal Board.
Aravind Kejriwal government has relaxed rules to encourage the common man to install the rainwater harvesting systems. What the house owners have to do is that they should get certificate from architects. In fact, the Delhi Government provides 50 per cent of t he funds needed to install the system. Moreover, the house owner gets a concession of 10 per cent. If the Government of Telangana were to implement such a scheme, the ground water table will improve. However, a decision should be taken by Municipal Administration Minister KTR in this regard for the benefit of posterity.
