The use of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics in real estate construction is expected to increase significantly in the coming years, CREDAI Chairman Boman Irani has said.
He noted that robots could increasingly handle hazardous, repetitive and highly precise tasks at construction sites, helping improve safety, quality and efficiency.
At the concluding session of CREDAI NATCON 2026 in Kolkata, Irani said robotics could be particularly useful for working at heights, handling heavy materials, and performing repetitive or precision-intensive activities.
However, human workers will continue to play a crucial role, with machines and people expected to work together.

Demand for Skilled Workforce
Addressing concerns that automation could threaten construction jobs, Irani noted that robots are not intended to replace human workers completely. Instead, the sector is likely to see a shift from routine manual labour towards technology-driven and skilled jobs.
Workers will be needed to operate and monitor machines, make complex construction decisions, and handle unexpected situations at project sites.
As a result, demand for workers with technical knowledge and specialised skills is expected to increase.
AI, 3D Printing to Transform Construction
The technology shift in construction is not limited to robotics. AI, drone-based monitoring, 3D printing and digital quality checks are also gaining importance.
Technology can help monitor whether projects are progressing as planned, identify quality issues and track deviations from construction schedules.
3D printing could enable standardised construction components produced with greater accuracy and consistency, potentially reducing construction time, material wastage, and human errors.
Overall, the construction industry is moving towards a technology-enabled model where robots handle dangerous and repetitive tasks while skilled workers focus on supervision, decision-making and specialised activities.
