Cozy, inviting and a dramatic space for Aparshakti

Introducing a new vibe to his home, Aparshakti Khurana, chose the modern style with a practical philosophy establishing a harmonious look in his new home. Designed by the famous celebrity interior designer Rupin Suchak, both of them highlighted the style to its core. Not just that, the decor that they chose together made it very easy for the actor’s family to fall in love with the place. “The inspiration for this house was insane, tropical, and modernist. Aparshakti wanted a space that was cozy, warm, inviting, and dramatic. Keeping in mind the brief, I had to find ways to incorporate the inspiration subtly. I derived the vibe from a mix of old-age Indian architecture ceilings to splashes of balinese-style decor. It’s all aesthetic heaven with artistic splashes.”

Making the home more cheerful, they introduced a cozy corner to it and described, “Bombay is known to be a city where people often struggle with space. We were lucky to have a well-planned layout that was already given to us in an apartment with ample space to create and explore endless possibilities. Aparshakti wanted to keep the space cozy and a laid back area to allow the family to bond, hence we decided to combine the living room with the dining area even though there was ample space for the two to have their independent corners.” Interesting twist! Moving ahead into Aparshakti’s new home, “Each space that I explored and designed for his home, had a little bit of me in it. There are a few key elements that I always add to all my projects which is my design identity! I always keep my signature style unaltered. I always add a striking element in every space that I design and decorate. There, however, is consistency in my aesthetic which gives my work a personality of its own.”

Making access areas from wardrobe rooms to the main room for checks, having a vanity that’s way more decorated than what we usually see and special corners to shoot videos or photos is a must in Aparshakti or any celebrity’s check-list! “The place which was given maximum focus to was the spectacular ‘wall of discussion’ as we call it right beside the dining table! The space holds a mixed arrangement of antiques and paintings sourced and made especially for the home. It truly is a show-stopper. The vibe is textured, layered, poised, smooth, accented, and spiked with beautifully restored elements throughout the space.

Taking inspiration from the traditional gentlemen’s clubs of London, we decided to feature a rich, masculine restrained palette. Colour is important so it’s not a neutral look but it’s more likely to be jewel tones, earthy shades, and heritage tones than bright, poppy hues. The paint finish is important too; no eggshell or satin here. Uber-matte is where it’s at. Textures have been adapted to my personal liking and treatment style and it’s an old fresco charred treatment.”

Like all other homes of urban high-rises, time was the biggest challenge for the the actor and the team he appointed too as they committed to delivering exactly in three months. But they adapted from a production design background to interiors, “It feels like a cakewalk for him to explore experiment design and deliver all of it once within the given timelines.

The restrictions that the team had to work with coming from the said rules of the society were the only big challenge on this project.” Both of them just wanted the space to resonate with their warm ever so welcoming attitude. “Aparshakti is a go-getter, he does everything possible as an artist and that was another beautiful character to bring out in the space metaphorically hence we incorporated bits of many things beautiful and created a beautiful mess. The entire setting just settles with their character so beautifully, you just walk into their house and plunge comfortably. They are super easygoing people with beautiful ambitions so the space brought that out with its simple complexity and beautiful details.”
