Real Estate Guru : The construction sector in Telangana was closed on Monday. Construction companies in Hyderabad as well as other cities in the state have suspended construction work. According to Credai Hyderabad, Credai Telangana, Treda, TBF and TDA, nearly 2,000 builders and developers in the state took part in the strike. In Hyderabad alone, there are about 1200 builders involved in this one day strike. There are about eight hundred builders from other cities. Nearly Two-and-a-half million workers who work on the sites have stopped working today. Indirectly fifty thousand people, office staff 25000 people .. In total about 3.25 lakh people participated in this bandh and declared their full support.
The construction sector has been severely affected by the rising cost of building materials. Speaking on the occasion, Credai Hyderabad General Secretary Rajasekhar Reddy said, “The time has come for governments to support the construction sector in difficult times. He said the construction sector was scared of rising construction material prices. It was the responsibility of governments to control the prices. The government should understands the problem and must respond positively to resolve it. That is why we are voluntarily shutting down today.”
GV Rao, president of the Telangana Developers’ Association, said the central government should remove the GST on steel and other building materials, 7.5 percent import duty on steel. CH Prabhakar Rao, President, Telangana Builders’ Federation, demanded that the Center should grant the status of infrastructure to the Indian construction sector and must create separate regulatory authority to control hike of building materials. The state-wide construction sector bandh program on Monday was a big success. Developers voluntarily participated in the bandh, said Treda general secretary Meka Vijay Sai. Credai Telangana Secretary General Indrasena Reddy said that all the construction associations across the state were involved in the bandh.
