Many habitats in ORR Phase-2 are yet to get drinking water supply. The contention of the officials to provide drinking water facility by December should be treated with a pinch of salt. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is implementing works to provide drinking water facility to these colonies. As part of the exercise, it is building elevated service reservoirs. It decided to provide drinking water to at least 250 colonies. Once the works are thorough, at least 2 lakh people will get drinking water facility.
Currently, these colonies get drinking water once in three days. Besides construction of reservoirs, development of inlet-outlet, distribution network, DI Pipe, K7 Pipelines are under way in Saroornagar, Maheshwaram, Shamshabad, Hayath Nagar, Ibrahimpatnam, Ghatkesar, Keesara mandals. The HMWSSB authorities say that the works would be over by December. Eight reservoirs each with a storage capacity of 20 million liters of water are being built in Ghatkesar. They cater to drinking water needs of 1.35 lakh people living in 147 colonies.
In Keesara, five reservoirs each with a capacity of storing 6.5 million liters are being built. They cater to the drinking water supply needs of 75000 people living in 122 colonies.
