Builder booked for bypassing Govt

A construction company that illegally sold flats after redevelopment, bypassing the government, has been charged. The police have filed a case against SK Realty and its directors for selling six flats worth Rs 3.52 crores to private individuals instead of handing them over to the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) as required.

In 2009, the SK Realty company was entrusted with the redevelopment of the Wadia House located at Gilder Lane in Tardeo, and the MHADA handed over the building for redevelopment. A condition was set that the additional construction area granted for the building would be returned to MHADA after completion.

After the construction was completed, six flats—501, 503, 504, 505, 702, and 703—worth about Rs 3.52 crores, were supposed to be handed over to MHADA. However, the construction company illegally sold these flats to private individuals. Despite multiple notices from MHADA, the company did not respond, prompting MHADA to approach the police.

As a result, a case has been registered against SK Realty (formerly Om Developers) and its partners Shantilal Makedha, Ansaben Makedha, Hemant Makedha, and Madhavi Makedha. The case has been transferred to the Economic Offences Wing for further investigation.
