Ayodhya: Economic activities going only upwards

  • Huge economic activity with 5 crore visitors annually
  • Massive development in terms of real estate
  • Many NRIs and investors are already eyeing Ayodhya.

Ayodhya is a spiritual centre for Hindus and a shrine visited by Sri Rama devotees. All this is on one side of the coin. And do you know what the other side of the coin is? Ayodhya will become a tourist destination, which will boost the economy of our country. Jefferies, a leading brokerage firm, predicts that Ayodhya will reach the number one spot in terms of tourist visits, surpassing other prominent religious and holy places in the country. It is said that about 5 crore visitors will come to Ayodhya every year. A new airport, renovated railway station, township, and road connectivity, along with the $10 billion investment and the arrival of new hotels, will increase the scope of economic activity in Ayodhya, according to a newly released report.

Up to 3 crore devotees visit the Tirumala temple every year, which is very unique in the country. A similar number of visitors are coming to the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Internationally, 90 lakh people visit Vatican City and 2 crore people visit Mecca in Saudi Arabia every year. However, it is estimated that 5 crore people will come to Ayodhya every year. It is said that this will boost the tourism sector there.

Before COVID, the tourism sector had a share of 194 billion dollars in our country’s GDP in 2018–19. It is estimated to reach 443 billion dollars by 2032–24, with an annual compounded growth rate of 8 percent. It is said that if tourism is developed, there will be good development in terms of the real estate sector as well. Many hotels are planning to expand their network chain there. On the other hand, they have decided to build a greenfield township on 1,200 acres. Many NRIs and real estate investors are focusing on properties in Ayodhya. Especially senior citizen homes and holiday homes are showing interest in their purchase in view of the expected increase in demand.
