During the HMDA auctions, an acre in Kokapet was sold for Rs 100 crore. This has become big news since then. Many thought that Hyderabad was being developed competitively. However, no one expected that there would be a shortage of water in Kokapet and people would have to buy water. Why did the situation arise?
Kokapet is a hot cake now. An area that is being developed like Western cities. However, there is a water shortage in existing gated communities, luxury villas, and other apartments there. Hyderabad Water Board is supplying water in Kokapet. It reached a situation where there is no answer to people’s questions as to why this situation has arisen, even though there are reservoirs like Himayatsagar and Osmansagar nearby.
The water board, which is supposed to provide 100 KL of fresh water to some gated communities, is providing only 10 to 12 KL of water. As a result, many residential gated communities are complaining that there is not enough fresh water and they have to fetch water with tankers. As a result, they have to spend Rs 3 to 5 lakhs per month to buy good water. Moreover, the complaints state that eighteen percent GST is also being paid on this freshwater bill. In total, it is reported that various communities are spending around three to five lakh rupees per month to buy water.
After the development of infrastructure in Kokapet, no one would have any problem if the auctions were conducted. It would have been easy for builders to construct apartments if electricity, fresh water, and drainage facilities were included along with roads. Skyscrapers are being constructed from Kokapet Service Road to Neopolis. Also, does the water board have the capacity to supply fresh water to them regularly? Or will the inhabitants of those skyscrapers have to face the problem of fresh water? Many are expressing doubt. Also, people are anxiously waiting to see what plans the water board will come up with to overcome this problem.
