America over Mumbai

  • In terms of real estate, Mumbai is more expensive than the United States.
  • Should one buy a single bedroom apartment in Mumbai or a larger house in the United States?
  • There is a heated discussion on social media about this.

America over Mumbai In India, Mumbai is considered the hub for expensive real estate. Additionally, many people aspire to move to America. Recently, a comparison between these two has become a hot topic of discussion. There is a widespread debate on social media about whether it is better to buy a single-bedroom apartment in Mumbai or a larger house in the United States. People are analyzing where one should invest for a smarter decision.

One American user posted, “I searched for a house in Andheri West. They quoted ₹1.80 crore for a single BHK. Moreover, most of these houses are going for redevelopment. For the same price, I could buy a bigger house in a small city in the U.S.” However, they also mentioned that while the initial cost may be similar, property taxes and general maintenance costs in the U.S. are significantly high.

Mumbai’s property market, with its sky-high prices due to limited space, is one of the most expensive in India. On the other hand, while the U.S. offers larger homes with better amenities, high property taxes and market fluctuations present challenges. Some users argued that buying a large home in the U.S. might not be the best choice compared to purchasing a single BHK in Mumbai, especially due to job insecurity in the U.S.

One netizen commented, “The heat and dust in Mumbai make it unbearable to live in. At the same time, Tier 2 and 3 cities are not practical options. Homes in the U.S. may be affordable, but without a job, the financial situation can quickly deteriorate. However, the overall quality of life in the U.S. is much better.”

Another user suggested a strategic approach: buy a house in the U.S. and rent it out. The rental income could then be invested in Mumbai’s real estate market. Many supported this idea, as rental income in the U.S. could provide enough funds to buy a property in Mumbai.

Some netizens also argued that Tier 2 cities are a viable alternative. They pointed out that Tier 2 and 3 cities are significantly better and more livable than Tier 1 cities like Mumbai. With the same budget required for a cramped single BHK in Mumbai, one could build a safe and beautiful individual home in the outskirts of Tier 2 or 3 cities.
