Absence of legal heirs’ column In Dharani causes more troubles

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao launched the Dharani portal with an intention to put an end to troubles being faced by farmers with regard to agricultural lands. It was also meant to prevent the realtors to run around the government offices for land records with regarding to their projects. But the officials appear to have failed miserably in tailoring the portal to suit its strategic ideas.

The Dharani website has been facing many challenges which are being addressed in a phase manner. However, the officials could not find solution to certain major problems like registration of properties to legal heirs. There is an increasing demand for holding a stakeholders meeting on the issues being faced by the people in order to find a suitable solution, failing which the Dharani portal could become an unnecessary baggage rather than being a strong tool. For instance, a farmer in Medak district has two acres of land inherited from his grandparents. He has two sons and three daughters. He died recently and in the absence of legal heirs’ column in Dharani website for land registration, the family is struggling to share the land. It may be noted that majority of land disputes are due to sharing and only the officials could explain why they could not include a crucial aspect of legal heirs pertaining to property registrations in the Dharani portal.

Farmers usually inherit land from their forefathers and there is an increasing demand from legal heirs to include a column on the Dharani portal to register all their names as heirs. Only then, any disputes regarding sales and purchases can be avoided in the future. Currently, there is only one option – the Consenting Party which does not serve the purpose and indicates that he/she is the sole owner of the land. As a result, more and more cases related to legal heirs are being registered in the courts especially after the Supreme Court verdict recently.
Other issues which were not addressed on Dharani website include non-inclusion of rectification deed and ratification deed. Further, the bandwidth is not adequate for those trying to clear the NALA charges. After the applicants fill all the details and upload the documents, the system is not supporting.

Already farmers and people living in urban areas are suffering due to various problems on Dharani portal. There is an urgent need for the government to address these issues at the earliest, failing which it would not be surprising if all the farmers get annoyed with the land issues and could demand the government to reverse its decisions with regard to the website.
