Instead, Congress Govt wants to give Indiramma houses
The Congress-led Telangana government cancelled around 60,000 double-bedroom houses that had been sanctioned during the BRS government and construction had not started. Instead of these, it was decided to give Indiramma houses to the respective beneficiaries. While the BRS government has sanctioned a total of 2.92 lakh double-bedroom houses, there are nearly one lakh under the jurisdiction of GHMC. The BRS spent Rs 12,500 crore and built only 1.54 lakh houses in the nine years it was in power. Even among these many houses are not in good condition.
Many houses are not allotted due to structural damages, missing windows, and doors due to leakages. While one lakh units were sanctioned under GHMC, only 69,000 houses were constructed. These were allotted to the beneficiaries before the 2023 assembly elections. However, many people are reluctant to take these due to lack of proper facilities. In this background, the Congress government has taken a decision to cancel around 60,000 houses that are not under construction.
