Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam have earned spots in the list of rapidly growing Tier-2 cities in India. According to Colliers India’s list of the top 30 Tier-2 cities in the country, Vijayawada secured the 10th position, while Visakhapatnam stood at the 11th position. The top three cities are Nagpur, Jaipur, and Lucknow, followed by Surat and Kochi in the 4th and 5th positions. Patna, Agra, Bhopal, and Chandigarh are ranked between 6th and 9th positions.
In terms of per capita income, Nagpur holds the top rank, followed by Gandhinagar and Mangalore. Vijayawada ranks 11th, while Visakhapatnam is at the 17th spot. The growth of infrastructure, government initiatives like Smart City programs, population expansion, emerging micro-markets, connectivity with major cities, and investment opportunities are contributing to the development of these cities.
Colliers also provided an estimate of how property rates are likely to increase in these cities over the next decade. Nagpur continues to lead in this regard, with property prices expected to rise by 5.2 times in the next 10 years. Ahmedabad, Agra, Jaipur, and Lucknow are expected to see increases of 4.5, 4, 3.4, and 3 times, respectively. Meerut, Chandigarh, and Bhopal are also projected to see significant price increases of 3, 2.7, and 2.5 times, respectively.
