The forest lover in Malavika led her to build dream home

Actress Malavika Mohanan is all excited because she has understood how the process works of building your dream home finally! It’s understandable that we all are excited to see her new home built from start to finish. She’s so creative that she has chosen a beautiful spot near the iconic Wayanad area to build a vacation home for herself. Let’s get to know it better with the creator herself — “Have grown up living with my family, never thought of moving out really until showbiz happened.

It’s this westernised culture incapacitated in all of us wherein as soon as turn a major, we tend to move out. My friends were on the same path but not me. Certainly, i never felt the need to do that and in fact, love spending my time with family instead. Apart from all the love they threw at me, that surrounding made me a disciplined woman today! They call me out if i dis-balance, or keep me in check. I haven’t gotten my own place yet because then who’ll maintain it as I run on a busy schedule as an actress.”

We were eager to know, why Wayanad? “Whenever this city life gets onto my nerves, i really need some me-time. Some detachment will follow. I am a complete forest lover which made me buy my first plot in Kerala. So now, I can go back to the jungle anytime! Not just that, it also has a rubber plantain and i am on my way to building a cottage there.” Wayanad is going to be her peaceful hideaway set deep in rubber plantation. The cottage will be completely cocooned in nature.

Who knows, she may go to bed listening to the bugs and the frogs and wake up with a bird song! She continued, “I saw my father struggling with his own career when we were tiny tots. With growth in his career, our houses also have expanded. We are in our third home now. But that small house is also unforgettable because I saw my brother growing up there and Amma taking care of us. So, because we come from a south-indian lineage, our design sense is very earthly. You’ll find sculptures from Tamil Nadu, living room has traditional tiles, our vases our made of brass and metals, even our temple has deities made of brass and then the famous Raja Ravi Varma paintings.”

She tells us she is in immense love with dark wood and, “Greenery also entices me alot. We have four massive balconies and there’s not one plant that you won’t find in my home! We hate too shiny and gaudy decor. That’s not my taste, i personally prefer more whites in my house. It makes me feel so serene, so bedsheets are also even in white and have textured white walls so that sunlight doesn’t reflects the glare off.” And, because she’s not a fan of city-living, she tells, “Because i am an actress, i got to be practical or else you must have found me in the mountains painting on the canvases. A water-body near my dream home will be the ultimate cherry on the cake! Again, the architecture will go down south.

The cottage will be small, to feel cozy with warm lighting and cultural elements. I have frequently been a visitor to Himalayas — there is something about it.” She explains more, “You’ll see the real lower foot-hills there. The flora and fauna is inexplicable! Plus, coming back to my dream home features — a massive walk-in closet (the idea comes from chick-flicks), pattern of sustainability, fascinated by the idea of having my own plantation, and want to be conscious of living by not leaving any carbon footprints.”
