The Telangana High Court granted a stay order on mining activities of Deccan Cements in its Suryapet mines until further orders. The HC Bench hearing a petition filed by social activist Koteswara Rao issued the stay orders. Till further orders are issued the Deccan Cements is prohibited from undertaking any mining activity in its mining lease no.3. However, the court allowed the Deccan Cements to file its response with the HC and posted further hearing in the matter to April 22.
The National Green Tribunal earlier declared that the Deccan Cements has been indulging in mining activities in contravention of green laws. It accused the cement company of encroaching 8.8 hectares of forest land and indulging in mining activity.
