Shah Rukh Khan in plans to extend his house

  • Request submitted to build two additional floors in Mannat

Mannat, the iconic residence of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, is known to fans across the world. Located in Mumbai’s Bandra area with a view of the sea, this Grade-3 heritage building was constructed in 1914. Spanning an area of 2,091.38 square meters, it also includes a modern-style annex building with four floors.

The Khan family has now decided to add two additional floors to this annex building. In this regard, Shah Rukh’s wife, Gauri Khan, applied to the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority on the 9th of last month, requesting permission to build two more floors. The application seeks approval for the construction of seven or eight floors, with a built-up area of 616 square meters, spread across two basements, the ground floor, and six existing floors. The estimated cost for the expansion is said to be around ₹25 crore.

Shah Rukh Khan first came across the mansion in 1997 when he was shooting in the Heritage Villa. At the time, the property was owned by the Bai Krushid Bhanu Sanjan Trust, managed by Nariman K. Dubash. Impressed by the grandeur of the villa and its location, Shah Rukh decided to buy it, and in 2001, he purchased the property, naming it Mannat.

Due to the heritage status of the building, no major alterations were allowed initially. However, an annex building was constructed later. Now, the Khan family has sought permission to build two additional floors on this annex. While the specific use of these new floors remains unclear, Gauri Khan’s application is under review. Relevant authorities have discussed the matter and suggested that Gauri Khan submit further details. Based on this information, a final decision on the approval will be made in the upcoming meeting.
