The National Consumers’ Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) shall have the jurisdiction to decide cases that have value over Rs 2 crore, according to the Centre. Hitherto the NCDRC’s jurisdiction was Rs 1 crore. The Centre has notified the changes in the jurisdiction of the district-level, state-level and national-level commissions.
As per the revised orders, the jurisdiction of the district level commission would be Rs 50 lakh. Earlier, the jurisdiction of the commission was Rs 1 crore. From now onwards, the jurisdiction of the state-level commission has been revised to decide cases between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 2 crore. Earlier, the state level commission used to decide cases worth Rs 1 crore to Rs 10 crore. Now onwards, the NCDRC jurisdiction has been increased to Rs 2 crore and above.
