- VMRDA invites objections and suggestions from the public
The government has decided to review the Visakhapatnam Master Plan-2041 once again. It will invite objections and suggestions from the public on the plan. The Visakhapatnam Master Plan was approved by the then YSRCP government in November 2021. The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) issued a notification dividing the plan into various policy zones based on development opportunities and investment options. However, there have been allegations that changes were made to the plan to protect the land of certain prominent individuals.
Criticism has arisen over significant differences between the draft notification and the final plan. Allegations have been made that the changes were made to benefit certain individuals. Complaints were also raised that some leaders purchased land in areas that would host important projects. In light of this, the coalition government in Andhra Pradesh has decided to focus on the issue.
The government has directed VMRDA to review the Visakhapatnam Master Plan and consider the objections of the public. As a result, VMRDA is preparing to invite the public’s opinions, objections, and suggestions once again. “The government has directed us to review the Visakhapatnam Master Plan and provide a revised plan. We will appoint a private consultant through this tendering process to complete the task. After the consultant is appointed, we will invite objections and suggestions from the public. After considering these, we will submit the final plan to the government,” said VMRDA Commissioner K.S. Vishwanathan.
