Restore Guttala Begumpet Lake

Dr. Lubna Sarwat, an environmentalist, has urged conservation of the Guttala Begumpet lake, which is paved with mud and stones. She filed a complaint with the Rangareddy District Collector along with satellite images about the encroachment of the Guttala Begumpet lake on Friday. She said that the inflow channel of this lake was destroyed. Some people encroached on the other side. The officials immediately should step into the field to protect this lake. She said that if this lake is restored, it will provide water and also prevent flood water from coming to the surrounding areas. She also told the authorities that their complaint will be considered as a prior notice to file a case in the NGT.

Whenever it rains, water reaches the houses in the Kakatiya Hills next to the Guttala Begumpet lake. During that time all the roads are filled with water. Recently, some illegals are trying to build apartments on the backside of this lake. A commercial shop called Godavari Cuts has been set up on one side of the traffic lights on the way to Ayyappa Society. The locals are also demanding to remove all the encroachments.
