Miyapur needs a new flyover!

  • Locality turns into an eternal hell
    with approvals for skyscrapers
  • School students stuck in traffic
  • Employees to face similar plight
  • Issue needs urgent solution

King Johnson Koyyada: “Hyderabad is shining”, “Will be turned into New York or Manhattan”, “All set to become a global city soon” – there was a lot of such talk. But people who talk like this, must once step on the road from Miyapur to Bachupally, to understand the reality. You can see firsthand how much hell the people living here go through every day. And the main reason for the plight of the people of Miyapur for last two years is the government’s lack of foresight.

Firstly, Hyderabad city does not have a proper master plan. There are no clear guidelines demarcating the residential areas for grant of permissions to construct residential properties to meet the needs of the growing population. There are no specific rules on where skyscrapers should be allowed. Considering the proposals for widening the existing road in the future, the authorities are said to be giving approvals for the skyscrapers under political pressure. However, they too are unaware as to exactly when the road widening will be taken up. This has started causing severe damage as the traffic on the busy roads has increased and the students going to school are facing difficulties. The school buses which were running smoothly until recently, are getting stuck in traffic for hours every day and children are forced to wait bearing the vehicular and sound pollution. Commuters including government and private employees who go to the offices and other works during the peak hours, are literally experiencing an eternal hell. A similar situation prevails in main roads as well as connected roads in Hyderabad.

Skyscrapers

The current width of the road from Miyapur to Bachupally is 80 feet and proposals are to widen it to 200 feet in the future. While the plans are good, the authorities already gave permission to five skyscrapers within a stretch of 200 metres. Due to this, people are suffering in traffic. Locals are lamenting that the GHMC authorities are only concerned about giving approvals, but do not bother about people’s plight. They wanted Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao to take up construction of a flyover from Miyapur to Coca-Cola factory, by widening the existing road especially between Lucky Restaurant and Coca Cola factory should be widened. Otherwise, people will have to experience more trouble in the days to come.
