Metro rail will be constructed above the skyway, says Minister KTR

He inaugurates the CREDAI office in Financial District

K T Rama Rao, the Minister of IT and Industries, revealed that plans are underway to build a metro train above the skyway in Hyderabad. The first phase will cover a distance of 18 kilometres each, from Jubilee Bus Station to Shameerpet and from Patny Centre to Kandlakoya. The skyway will be built simultaneously with the metro train. Speaking at the inauguration of the CREDAI, Telangana office, in the financial district on Thursday, Rama Rao stated, “If we get a supportive government at the Centre in 2024, we will commence the construction of the skyway for easy access to Karimnagar and Mancherial. Despite our continuous requests, the incumbent BJP government at the Centre has shown little interest. The first phase of the Metro rail project has been completed. We will cover a total of 250 kilometres long metro rail around the city, extending it from Patancheru and ECIL. The construction of the Airport expressway, which will reach Shamshabad, is currently in the tendering stage. We will initiate related works in Rajendranagar. This metro will be developed along the South West Corridor, enabling IT employees from Shamshabad to conveniently travel to Madhapur and Gachibowli. This corridor will attract more industries.”

He added, “Though Pharma City has encountered some legal disputes, both the North East and South East regions will experience substantial growth. To address the pollution problem in the city, we are introducing a fleet of 1,000 electric buses. The remaining development works will be carried out in phases. Additionally, we have already constructed 35 flyovers and implemented measures to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply. IT, industries, and life sciences sectors will flourish. The year will witness the establishment of Foxconn and the development of a Pharma City, located about 30 km away. Further, Electronic and Aero-SEZ industries are on the verge of commencing operations, and Genome Valley is also on the horizon. We are committed to developing Electronics and Film Cities.”

“We are investing Rs 1,000 crores in the Strategic Nala Development Programme. By the end of September this year, Hyderabad will gain recognition as a city that treats 100 per cent of its sewage. Alongside Kokapet and Durgam Cheruvu, we are constructing 16 additional Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) at a cost of Rs 4,000 crores. As part of our circular economy approach, we aim to utilise 100 per cent of the treated sewage water for new construction projects and landscaping. We are in the process of formulating a policy for this purpose. The number of IT employees in Hyderabad’s IT sector has increased from 3.23 lakh in 2014 to 9.05 lakh in 2023. They all play a significant role in the city’s development. It is worth noting that one IT employee indirectly creates livelihood for eight other individuals.”
