The Telangana government has focused on the development of the Hyderabad metropolitan area. In particular, it has prepared plans for establishing infrastructure facilities around the IT corridor. An action plan has been announced to develop signal-free junctions to address traffic issues in the heart of Greater Hyderabad, particularly around KBR Park in Jubilee Hills. The plan aims to set up a total of six traffic junctions around KBR Park to further beautify the city.
Hyderabad is already developing on an international scale. The city is advancing in various sectors, including IT, bulk drugs, pharmaceuticals, finance, and life sciences. In this context, the Telangana government is taking steps to provide more infrastructure facilities for the city. Alongside announcing the Future City, the Revanth government is establishing several government agencies there and has focused on further improving the infrastructure in Hyderabad. To this end, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has decided to develop international-level infrastructure around Kasu Brahmanandha Reddy (KBR) National Park, which is located in the heart of the city. The Telangana government has announced a roadmap for this initiative.
Every day, thousands of vehicles travel from Jubilee Hills to all parts of the city. There is particularly heavy traffic due to vehicles heading towards the IT corridor areas like Madhapur, Hi-tech City, Gachibowli, and the Financial District. In light of this, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has decided to develop traffic-free junctions around KBR Park. As part of this, proposals have been prepared to undertake the construction of a total of six junctions in two phases. This project will include the construction of underpasses and flyovers. The design for the underpasses will ensure they can function without rainwater accumulation. The plan includes underpasses for traffic moving in one direction and flyovers for traffic in the opposite direction. The Telangana government has granted administrative approvals to spend Rs 826 crore on this prestigious project. The government is working to start the first phase of construction in January next year.
The development of junctions with underpasses and flyovers around KBR Park in Jubilee Hills is set to transform the landscape of Hyderabad. However, the project’s progress has become uncertain due to KBR Park being under the jurisdiction of the Forest Department and the need for environmental clearances. This is particularly concerning because the previous BRS government also attempted to develop traffic junctions around KBR Park but could not proceed due to environmental permit issues. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that if this project is completed, it will elevate Hyderabad’s infrastructure to a whole new level.
