Tesla, the automotive company owned by Elon Musk, is preparing to enter the Indian market. The company has decided to set up showrooms in Delhi and Mumbai. The plan is to establish showrooms in 5,000 square feet of space in both cities. So, how much will the rent for these showrooms be?
Tesla considers the Aerocity area, near Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, to be an ideal location for its showroom. In Mumbai, the company has chosen space near the airport, specifically at the Bandra-Kurla Complex. However, the opening dates for these showrooms have not yet been finalized. Tesla will operate these showrooms directly to sell imported EVs in India.
Experts say that the rent for car showrooms largely depends on the location. In Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex, the rent for car showrooms ranges from Rs 700 to Rs 800 per square foot, depending on the floor, building, project, and location. Therefore, the rent for a 5,000 square foot showroom would range from Rs 35 lakh to Rs 40 lakh per month. Similarly, in Delhi’s Aerocity area, the rent for showrooms is estimated to be Rs 500 to Rs 600 per square foot, depending on the location. So, for a 5,000 square foot showroom, the rent would be around Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh per month. In areas like Connaught Place, the rent could exceed Rs 600 per square foot.
Luxury car manufacturers typically prefer showrooms located along major roads. Many global auto brands, including Mercedes and BMW, have showrooms along Golf Course Road in Gurgaon, a high-net-worth area. Hence, they prefer such locations for their showrooms.
