There is a perceptible increase in green projects across the country during the past decade. There is significant progress registered in this sector. There is considerable increase in green projects in the National Capital Region of Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai. In 2011, the green projects constituted only 24 per cent of the total number of projects. By 2021, it rose to 31 per cent. The total plinth area of green projects in the third quarter of 2021 was 212 million sft , as against 80 million sft in 2011, registering 177 per cent growth.
Compared to the growth during 2012-2016, the growth of green projects was more during the last five years. It would mean the realty sector in the country has become more responsible towards environment and governance. Hyderabad appears to be better placed in this regard. The NCR of Delhi and Hyderabad share 44 per cent of the green projects. They are closely followed by Chennai (37 per cent), Mumbai (16 per cent) and Pune (15 percent).
