No Parking Facility.. No Car Registration?

  • Naredco West Zone Builders’ Association President M Prem Kumar

The state government on one hand is implementing its greenery drive Harithaharam programme and on the other, it is allowing more and more cars to ply on the roads. It is likely to be unproductive. That is why the state government has to implement a novel programme to cut down the number of cars plying on the roads. Many people have been buying cards availing bank loans. In spite of not having parking facilities, people are buying cars. To reduce such practices, several opinions have been expressed.

It has become customary for many people to build four or five storey buildings on 100 square yards or 200 square yards of sites even without securing the permission. It is visible to the naked eye. Those who live in such houses have been parking their cars on the streets itself.

Parking of cars on the either side of the roads, whose width varies between 20 feet and 30 feet – leaves little scope for even ambulances to navigate through the streets in case of emergencies. Such illegal practices are quite normal in many colonies, it is felt. The people have been managing the GHMC officials in one way or the other and resorting to building illegal structures. To check such practices, the government has been toying with the idea of insisting the people to show the parking place to register cars. Those who have the facility to park their cars would be able to register the vehicles. Moreover, it would reduce pressure on the infrastructural amenities in various localities.
