Land owners prefer to receive Transfer Development Rights (TDRs) in lieu of cash from the GHMC for the property acquired by it from them for various road development projects. Recently, the GHMC has released 864 TDR certificates in lieu of compensation payable to land owners for the acquisition of over 350 acres.
Since compensation payable to property owners has increased manifold, the GHMC has introduced the issue of TDRs instead of payment of money. It would put no pressure on the state exchequer. Moreover, the property owners evince more interest in receiving the TDRs. As a result, the use of TDRs has increased significantly, GHMC says in a release.
During the past five years, 89 road development projects have been taken up. To develop 55 roads, the GHMC has acquired 1805 properties from the general public. Under the Strategic Road Development Programme, the number of properties acquired is 1100. For development of missing roads and slip roads, 192 properties have been acquired. To widen roads, the number of properties acquired is 511.
Similarly, for development of bio-diversity fly-over and RUB at Shilparamam, to build Rajiv Gandhi FlyOver at JNTU, for construction of RUBs at Road No. 45, Durgamcheruvu Cable bridge, and at Hi-Tech City, road underpass from Bairamalpguda top Chintalkpunta check post land has been acquired in various places and road widening works have been implemented, the release said.
