Four more new national highways in Telangana

To improve road connectivity in Telangana, the central and state governments have taken proactive steps. Under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), construction is underway for four key national highways spanning a total of 271 kilometres, with a budget of Rs 10,034 crore. Tenders have been invited for the Mahbubnagar–Gudeballur, Armur–Jagityal, Jagityal–Karimnagar, and Jagityal–Mancherial highways. Officials say that while a national highway from Hyderabad to Amaravati has already been planned, the addition of these four new routes will significantly enhance road connectivity across the state.

The road landscape in Telangana is set to transform significantly. Tenders have already been invited for the construction of the Regional Ring Road, and the central government has approved the construction of a greenfield highway from Hyderabad to Amaravati. Alongside this, the government has greenlit four major national highway projects in Telangana under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). These projects aim to develop a total of 271 kilometres of roads at an estimated cost of Rs 10,034 crore. Recently, NHAI invited tenders for the Armur–Jagityal, Jagityal–Karimnagar, and Jagityal–Mancherial highways, while tenders for the Mahbubnagar–Gudeballur highway were called last month. The tendering process for all four projects is expected to conclude by the end of December, with construction work planned to commence by January or February 2026.
Among the four national highways, the Jagityal–Mancherial highway has been planned for construction under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model. The other three highways—Armur–Jagityal, Jagityal–Karimnagar, and Mahbubnagar–Gudeballur—will be built using the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). Under HAM, roads are constructed through a public-private partnership, with private companies responsible for certain maintenance obligations. The Jagityal–Karimnagar highway will span 59 kilometres with an estimated cost of Rs 2,484 crore, while the Armur–Jagityal highway will cover 64 kilometres at Rs 2,338 crore. The Jagityal–Mancherial highway is estimated at Rs 2,550 crore for 68 kilometres, and the Mahbubnagar–Gudeballur highway will extend 80 kilometres with a projected cost of Rs 2,662 crore. Officials have confirmed that all key approvals — including environmental, forest, and railway clearances — have been obtained for these four projects.
