Former captain of India Cricket team MS Dhoni landed in more and more problems. He was the brand ambassador for the controversial Amrapali group. Several buyers of properties from the group have lodged complaints with the economic offences wing of the Delhi police stating that they invested in the group attracted by Dhoni’s campaign. The Supreme Court on July 23 confirmed that Amrapali Group diverted customers funds into other companies, that included the companies owned by Dhoni’s spouse. The complaints urged the police to include Dhoni’s name in the FIR as they alleged him to be part of the conspiracy hatched by the Amrapali Group.
The Amrapali group, headed by CMD Anil K Sarma, emerged as a crucial real estate organisation. A petition was filed against the group in 2017 in the Supreme Court as it failed to deliver flats after collecting the full sum from the customers. Auditors appointed by the SC confirmed that the Amrapali Group indulged in irregularities. They found out that the group invested the crores of rupees taken from buyers in activities other than real estate activities. In a judgment delivered by the SC on July 23, it removed Anil K Sarma as the CMD of the group and ordered the court receiver to take over the company and complete execution of the unfinished flats.
