- Rs 1,090 crore funds under the Rising Hyderabad Scheme
- 6 underpasses at 6 junctions; roads with a width of 120 feet
- Tenders for the KBR Park project will be issued in a week
The Telangana government, focused on the development of infrastructure in Hyderabad, has entered direct action. As part of the Rising Hyderabad Scheme, the GHMC plans to execute 38 projects in 7 packages under the name City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure. The first package includes the construction of 6 underpasses and 8 flyovers around KBR Park. Initially, the project was estimated to cost Rs 826 crore, but the decision to build the flyovers entirely with steel has raised the estimated cost to Rs 1,090 crore. The government will release this amount under the Rising Hyderabad Scheme. With administrative approvals already granted, GHMC officials have expedited the process. Tenders for the construction of underpasses and flyovers around KBR Park will be called within a week, and once the process is completed, work will begin immediately.
Around KBR Park, 8 steel bridges will be constructed to address the traffic issues, ensuring smooth traffic flow from one side to the other. GHMC officials have set a target to complete this work within one and a half years. The junctions include Jubilee Hills Check Post, Road No. 45, Film Nagar, Maharaj Agrasen Junction, Cancer Hospital, and KBR Park Entrance Junctions. At the Jubilee Hills Check Post Junction and KBR Entrance Junction, two steel bridges will be built. One steel bridge will be constructed at each of the remaining four junctions. At the Jubilee Check Post, an additional flyover will be built on one of the bridges. The flyover from Chiranjeevi Blood Bank to Road No. 45 will have 2 lanes. A 4-lane flyover from KBR Park towards Road No. 36 will be planned to go underneath.
As part of the junction development work, GHMC will also undertake extensive road widening around KBR Park. All the roads around, starting from the road where the Telugu Desam Party office is located, will be widened. The current 100-foot-wide roads will be expanded to 120 feet. With underpasses on the lower side and steel bridges on top, along with a 120-foot-wide road, officials are confident that there will be no traffic issues around KBR Park.
To widen the roads around KBR Park, 87 properties are being acquired. These include properties belonging to NTR Trust Bhavan, former minister Jana Reddy, and film actor and TDP MLA Balakrishna. The officials have already marked the area, and work will begin as soon as the tenders are completed.
Along with KBR Park, Banjara Hills Road No. 12 will also be widened. The current 100-foot road will be expanded to 120 feet. The government has specially allocated Rs 150 crore for road widening, including at the Balaji Temple Junction. Authorities have prepared plans to complete this work quickly. Officials have stated that all obstacles have been cleared for the project. On the other hand, some individuals have approached the National Green Tribunal, expressing concerns that the construction of underpasses and flyovers will affect the greenery at KBR Park. However, officials have assured that the work will not impact the park’s greenery. If any trees need to be removed, they will be transplanted to another location.
The current term of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will end on February 10, 2026. Therefore, the Congress government plans to hold the GHMC elections in February 2026. The government aims to complete road widening around KBR Park, junction development, and the construction of underpasses and flyovers before the GHMC elections.
