The years has changed the outlook how we see the world – it has changed how we see work, family, friends and how we see our homes especially. In addition to all this, there has also been a lot of free time on our hands due to the pandemic. So renovating homes, interior designing were popular choices of activities for the actor Chandan Roy Sanyal. The Rang De Basanti fame had some tips to create a dream home. When in conversation with Chandan, he revealed,
“It was 2018 when i bought a home of my own — while if we go back to my childhood, most of the times I was shuttling especially in Karol Bagh, that’s Delhi. We were a lower-middle class family back then and my parents brought me up in a ‘barsaati’. The kitchen was more of a tented shelter, there was water clogging issues inside. Even when I moved to Bombay, i shared homes with other actors. Post thirties, I was independent enough to have my own home in an extremely expensive town in Mumbai.” Paying the rent for a decent home was not just a challenge for him but became a commodity earlier. A housing affordability at some point created stress on him but as soon as he striked the chords with popular films like Kaminey and Hollywood film like Midnight’s Children — he was relieved.
He continued, “I believe in simple living, I am not up for the housing stress in metropolitan city. A breezy apartment is good to go. Your lifestyle will be totally different if you own just the essentials.” He really feels that all others are luxuries that we don’t actually need in reality! Moreover, “If i have some unrequited money, my focus would first go on plants to breathe life into my home. It adds a calming space to the vibe! It’s just not a decor piece for me, but beyond that. Paintings are also an attractive way to decorate your home. They also add a certain grace to the house and beauty to the walls. But, it’s also tough to choose which one. And then, i would prefer music playing in my home. Sometimes even drinking at home in my pajamas is something I look forward to, don’t like to bar hopping every night. My bunglow should also have an out-house, exactly how we see in films (he laughs).”
Nowadays, the actor is into writing and he has a preferred place to sit and write in his current home. Adding to that, “I love cooking and it’s not something that’s baffling. It’s fun, creative and sometimes it turns out to be romantic (he giggled). I have seen its a great way to bond at the table or from behind the kitchen bar! And imagine, doing all this by the seashore. I want a relaxed, breezy feel. Overlooking the water, who wouldn’t want to stay there with their spouse? The place that I have chosen in my mind are the French waters by the way!”
