- Government invites objections, if any, from public
The Aam Aadmi Party has initiated measures to fulfill the dreams of a common man to own a roof over his or her head. Taking a step in this direction, it has been formulating Affordable Housing Policy, according to a Minister in Punjab Cabinet Amaran Arora. The Minister clarified that the Government will not let go any opportunity to fulfill the housing dream of the common man. He said that the draft Affordable Housing Policy-2022 of Punjab government has been uploaded into relevant portal inviting suggestions and objections to the policy from public.
As per the new policy, to develop a housing colony offering house sites to public should have a site area of at least five acres, while two acres of land is sufficient to promote group housing. The saleable area of the land in housing colonies has been increased to 65 per cent of the site from the earlier 55 percent to make housing affordable to the common man, he said. Similarly, the government reduced the charges for changing land use and land development charges and other taxes by at least 50 percent. Maximum size of the flat has been pegged at 150 square yards, while the maximum flat size has been pegged at 90 meters. To reduce the cost of construction, parking rules have been relaxed to a great extent. However, the policy is not applicable to New Chandigarh (Mullanpur).
