The Telangana Realtors’ Association demanded immediate registration of plots in layouts located in village panchayats. It submitted memoranda to all 141 sub-registrars in this regard. The issue gained significance in the light of the IG of Stamps and Registrations issued a memo on August 26, 2020 prohibiting the registration of plots in panchayat layouts. When the realtors moved the High Court on the issue, the court gave a decision in favour of the association. However, the state government challenged the decision in the Supreme Court.
Pending decision from the SC, The Realtors’ Association resorted to agitational methods. Prior to submitting memoranda to the sub-registrars, the Association members protested in front of the Stamps and Registrations office and submitted a memorandum highlighting the association demands. The realtors body president Praveen Kumar maintains that the villagers who have purchased the plots in village panchayats whether knowingly or unknowingly have been experiencing mental agony. Hence, the need to register the plots in panchayat layouts, he added.
On account of suspension of registration of plots in village panchayat layouts, several realtors, who are caught in debts, took the extreme step of committing suicides, rues Association working president M Narasaiah. Moreover, the customers are also facing problems in selling their plots to raise money to meet their needs.
If the state government fails to come to their rescue, it would have to face the wrath of the realtors who are preparing to launch massive protests. Narsaiah said that memoranda would be submitted to local MLA, MP and Minister on Nov 29 and a Maha Dharna would be staged at Indira Park on Dec 8 in support of the association demands.
