- IGBC Green Building Congress held
Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) is making extraordinary efforts in promoting sustainable built environment, said former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu. Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the 20th edition of the Green Building Congress organised by IGBC for three days, he said that people should recognise the dangers caused by climate change. All State governments and local bodies have been asked to actively promote IGBC rated green buildings. He emphasised the need for India to take immediate steps to conserve water for the future generation. He urged all to participate in the green building movement.
Anna Shotbolt, Deputy Trade Commissioner Investment for South Asia and the British Deputy High Commissioner for Karnataka & Kerala, said that she was happy to see a large number of enthusiasts participating in the Green Building Congress. She explained to the audience about many partnerships between the United Kingdom and India. She also revealed that the UK will launch a new initiative with IGBC to promote clean technology in India. Revealing the UK’s efforts towards net zero, she said that th UK will work together with India, and more importantly, by working together with IGBC, they will reach the sustainable goals and net zero for both the nations.
IGBC NEST, one of the rating programmes for self-developed housing projects for greenary, was launched at this event. IGBC Green Factory Rating System, IGBC Green Affordable Housing Rating System and IGBC Green Resorts Rating System were also launched here. Along with this IGBC coffee table book was released. Awards were also given to school students, architecture students and industries. IGBC National Chairman Gurmeet Singh Arora said that IGBC Green Building Congress 2022 is one of the biggest events in Asia, attended by 120 speakers and 3,000 delegates. CII Telangana State Council Vice Chairman and IGBC Hyderabad Chapter Chairman C Shekhar Reddy welcomed the guests. He said that the Telangana government always provides good support to the environment and is happy to be a partner State. IGBC National Vice Chairman B Thiagarajan delivered the concluding lecture. After this inaugural event, India’s largest green expo was launched as part of the Green Building Congress 2022. The expo showcased over 1,000 green building products, services and technologies through 100 stalls. More than 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the expo, which was held between October 20-22, 2022.
