On the occasion of Earth Day, Confederation of Indian Industry – Indian Green Building Council (CII – IGBC) organized ‘IGBC’s Green Crusaders’ Programme at CII – Green Business Centre, Hyderabad today. The programme was graced by the presence of eminent officers such as K Ravi Kumar, Sr. Environmental Engineer, Telangana State Pollution Control Board, K Vidhyadhar Director-DTCP, TSRERA – Secretary Govt. of Telangana, Murli Krishna Reddy, Chairman, CREDAI Telangana, Ramachandra Reddy, President, CREDAI Telangana, and Sunil Chandra Reddy, President, NAREDCO Telangana. Other dignitaries included Gautam Reddy, Convener, Infra and Real Estate Panel, CII Telangana, and V Rajasekhar Reddy, General Secretary of CREDAI, Hyderabad.
He thanked CREDAI for their recent pledge to Partner with IGBC to Construct 4000 Green Projects by 2030 and welcomed NAREDCO & TBF to contribute towards the green building movement. He also announced “To further encourage and recognize green buildings exclusively in the real estate space, CII IGBC is hosting GREEN PROPERTY SHOW 2023, India’s first & exclusive expo displaying IGBC Green Certified/Pre-certified projects, Green products & technologies on 29 & 30 July 2023 at HITEX, Hyderabad, Telangana.”
Special guest, K Ravi Kumar, said “Going forward, for a sustainable future, for large construction projects 4% of the energy generated in any project should be from green energy.” He said that IGBC Green certification is on par with the PCB norms and are good guidelines for achieving more than mandated green features. He said that talks for collaboration between TSPCB and CII are underway for bringing about incentives for green buildings, which was greatly appreciated by all present. He said he wishes to see more Net Zero buildings from the construction sector which is the next step.
Sunil Chandra Reddy elaborated on the growth potential of Hyderabad which is set to be 4th fastest growing city in the world by 2030. He said that such growth has to be sustainable for the benefit of the people and this sustainability translates to survivability in the time to come. He suggested that green buildings are a great starting step to this sustainable outcome.
V Rajasekhar Reddy in his address said CREDAI will always support IGBC’s endeavors and the Green Property show in July, will be the game changer which will bring greater awareness to the public and make people understand the benefits of green building. Murli Krishna Reddy said that 1cr hectares of deforestation is happening every year across the world every year which is unfortunate. However, he said, Telangana is working hard for afforestation and reforestation and has been able to restore significant green cover. He said that organisations like IGBC are very inspiring to the stakeholders of the construction industry and said all interested parties, especially CREDAI members should be trained with green principles.
Ramachandra Reddy in his remarks provided various suggestions to enable everyone to adopt IGBC rating systems, overcoming challenges. Gautham Reddy in his impassioned speech said that we cannot compromise the rights of the next generation to come. He said that “There is nothing called waste without the word use. Every element in the building can be recycled. We are glad to announce today that RE Sustainability is registering a building with 100% recycled material that will be completed by World Environment Day” which was well received by the audience.
During this program, Developers/Builders/Corporate/Owners of projects who have registered their projects under appropriate IGBC Rating systems were felicitated as IGBC Green Crusaders for showcasing their leadership and commitment towards building a sustainable planet. There were 50 participant projects who in total have committed to a total of 80 Million sq. ft. of green building development.
