With the central government inviting tenders for the northern part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR), the project is now set to take off. Since land acquisition is nearly complete, the construction of the road can begin soon. The road to be constructed in the northern part of the RRR will connect with 11 national and state highways. This four-lane Greenfield Regional Expressway will allow direct travel to other states without passing through the city or its outskirts. Seven district centres can also be directly accessed. The RRR will significantly reduce travel distances for inter-state vehicles, and as a result, there is a potential for reduced vehicle congestion within the Hyderabad region.
As the connectivity of the Regional Ring Road improves, this area is set to develop into an economic corridor. The districts connected by the RRR will experience growth in both the real estate and business sectors. With the construction of various types of roads near the interchanges of the RRR, the overall landscape of these areas will undergo a significant transformation.
The construction of the northern part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) is being carried out in a total of five packages. As part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana program, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will construct the RRR, passing through Sangareddy, Medak, Siddipet, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri districts. The design has been made with inputs and recommendations from the Roads and Buildings Department’s NH Division.
The interchanges will be planned with consideration for the Outer Ring Road, national highways, and routes leading to other district centres. A total of 11 interchanges, along with toll plazas, restrooms, service roads, bus bays, and truck bays, will be constructed. Currently, the RRR is being built as a four-lane road, but there are proposals to expand it to six or eight lanes in the future.
The 11 interchanges that will come up in the northern part of the RRR (Regional Ring Road) are as follows:
- National Highway 65 – A single trumpet interchange near Sangareddy, between Hyderabad and Pune.
- National Highway 161 – A double trumpet interchange near Hyderabad-Nanded.
- Hyderabad-Medak Road – A diamond interchange near Narsapur.
- National Highway 44 – A cloverleaf interchange near Masayipet, on the Hyderabad-Nagpur Road.
